Dr. Ronald Poropatich is the Executive Director of the Center for Military Medicine Research, Health Sciences and Professor of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh and Senior Advisor for Telemedicine, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Poropatich is an affiliated faculty member of the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine. He is Professor of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Science (USUHS), Bethesda, MD.
Dr. Poropatich received his MD at Hahnemann University in 1985, and completed Internal Medicine residency and fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Walter Reed Army Medical Center.Dr. (Colonel) Poropatich completed 30 years of active US Army service in 2012. His positions incuded Deputy Director of the Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC), US Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC) (2006-12), and U.S. Army Medical Informatics Consultant(2000-08)

Dr. Poropatich led U.S. Army telemedicine for consultation in Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, Kuwait, Haiti, Croatia, and domestic US Army Facilities from 1992-2012. He was Chair of the NATO Telemedicine Expert Team (2000-2012) and President (2002-2003) and Board Member of the American Telemedicine Association since 1995.
Dr. Poropatich is Associate Editor of “Telemedicine and e-Health Journal." He has over 60 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and has edited 2 books on Telemedicine. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine in Medicine, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, American College of Chest Physicians, American Telemedicine Association, and American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering.
Dr. Poropatich is a Cogzant senior consultant in the areas of Telehealth, organizational transformation, faculty development, application of healthcare and educational technologies, grant deveolpment, metric based quality improvement, program development, research development, and programmatic accreditation.
