Geoff's healthcare career began as a Paramedic. From 2011 to 2015 he was Director of Simulation, Technology and Research at the Sentara Center for Simulation and Immersive Learning (SCSIL) at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) in Norfolk Virginia. He managed the largest standardized patient cohort in the US, providing OSCE, and other standardized patient programs to multiple academic institutions throughout the US. At EVMS he oversaw development of a new education center facility with extensive simulation‐based educational capabilities including Standardized Patients (SPs), Physical Teaching Associates (PTAs), Genitourinary Teaching Associates (GTAs), manikin-based simulators, partial task trainers, virtual and immersive environments, computer based simulators, and other educational technologies to meet the outcomes and objectives established by a broad range of clients. He led the successful 2016 SCSIL Society of Simulation in Healthcare accreditation process.
Geoff served as the Associate Director of Research and Curriculum development for Pre-hospital and Emergency Healthcare at the Gordon Center for Research in Medical Education (GCRME), at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where he was a key member of a team that developed and deployed a simulation based statewide program for training and certification of pre-hospital personnel. He served twice as the President of the Florida Association of EMS Educators.
In his role as Senior Research Scientist and lab manager at the US Army Medical Modeling and Simulation Innovation Center (MMSIC) he was responsible for research and development of advanced simulation capabilities and education strategies.
Geoff is actively engaged in scholarly research and publication in EMS practice and education. He has coauthored several books including the Jones and Bartlett textbooks and instructor resource materials for 'National Incident Management System: Principles and Practice" and "Arrhythmia Recognition the Art of Interpretation". Geoff is a frequent author in emergency medical services and emergency care journals authoring and co-authoring numerous articles.
Geoff is a co-author of the renowned Improving Simulation Instructional Methods (iSIM) course, which is considered the global gold standard simulation instructor faculty development program, with over 3500 participants to date. He is frequently invited to speak at the local, national and international levels and is best known for his work as an educational innovator and healthcare simulation development and implementation expert
